Tubal Infertility
Patent fallopian tubes (tubes through which fluid can flow) are a requirement for spontaneous pregnancy within the uterus. The egg and sperm cannot meet in the body without working fallopian tubes to connect the ovaries to the cavity of the uterus. Therefore, non-patent or absent fallopian tubes are an absolute indication for IVF.
Diagnosis: Fallopian tubes blockages can be diagnosed on laparoscopy (minimally invasive surgery) or on HyCoSy ultrasound, where fluid is injected through the cervix to observe spillage from the tubes.
Ectopics: Tubal Infertility can also result from the surgical removal of fallopian tubes due to ectopic pregnancies.
