Egg Freezing
Michael is passionate about maximising your fertility options for the future while minimising the impact on your current career, relationships and lifestyle.
Egg freezing is a critical element of how we as a society adapt to changing career and life stage expectations. As people increasingly prioritise education and career, egg freezing provides the potential to diversify your future fertility options.
Whether you want to discuss an AMH result, are hoping to future-proof your fertility, have received a cancer diagnosis, or are seeking preservation before gender-affirming care, Michael provides a supportive, evidence-based environment for your journey.
AMH & the Impact of Age
Understanding your current fertility status is the first step in the decision-making process:
Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH): AMH is a marker of your ovarian reserve. While it helps forecast your response to IVF medications, it does not predict rates of spontaneous conception. AMH usually peaks at approximately 25 years of age and gradually reduces overtime.
Age remains the most important predictor of fertility, affecting both egg quantity and quality. As eggs age, they are more likely to have DNA damage which can make conception harder and increase the rate of miscarriage or chromosomal issues. These risks rise significantly after age 35.
Risk Factors: Patients with a family history of early menopause, or those who have undergone chemotherapy or have endometriosis, may be at risk of an earlier deterioration in their ovarian reserve.
A Stimulation Cycle
A typical egg freezing cycle involves several key stages:
Ovarian Stimulation: You will use injectable medications to stimulate the growth of multiple eggs in one cycle.
Monitoring: We use regular ultrasounds and blood tests to monitor progress and determine the optimum time to trigger the maturation of those eggs.
Egg Collection: Approximately 36 hours after the trigger injection, eggs are collected via an ultrasound-guided vaginal procedure.
Cryopreservation: Once collected, the mature eggs are frozen using advanced vitrification techniques.
Planning for the Future
Some patients may require multiple cycles to achieve an egg number with which they are comfortable. Michael uses egg freezing calculators to estimate the likelihood of a future live birth based on your age and the number of eggs frozen, allowing for informed decision making.
